Week-long online workshop on social science research methodology concludes at KU

A week-long virtual workshop on “Methodology of Social Science Research” concluded at the University of Kashmir.
The workshop, organized by the Department of Sociology, brought together 50 researchers from various social science disciplines from inside and outside Jammu and Kashmir.
During the workshop, eminent resource persons, including Professor Vivek Kumar (JNU), Professor Noor Mohammad (AMU), Professor Ajailiu Niumai (University of Hyderabad), Professor Manindra Thakur (JNU) , Prof. Paramjit Singh Judge (President, Indian Society of Sociology), Prof. Shafique Ahmad (JMI) and Prof. SK Sharma (University of Punjab), Prof. Indira Ramaroa (University of Mysore) and Prof. Aabha Chauhan (University of Jammu) shared their knowledge and experiences with the budding researchers.
The head of the sociology department, Prof. Aneesa Shafi, said the workshop was organized to introduce participants to various aspects and paradigms of research, as well as to instill in them the ability to systematically conduct independent research.
“The workshop focused on the theoretical and philosophical dimensions as well as the rationale on which social research should be structured,” she said.
During the week-long procedure, the experts responded to the practical aspects of research that a researcher encounters during the various stages of the research while covering a wide range of topics ranging from understanding the relationships between ontology, epistemology, methodology and methods in social sciences, research design Qualitative and quantitative research project and methods, ethnography to new trends in social research, intradisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, discourse analysis, grounded theory and feminist methodology.
Professor Aneesa described the role of these workshops as fundamental in exploring various dimensions and epistemological paradigms of research.
The department is excited to organize such workshops in the future as well to ensure dynamism among academics and to ensure that the whole department functions at the same level as other reputable institutions in the country, a- she declared.
