NFL’s ‘most hated’ list includes 3 stars linked to Chiefs
When you win in the NFL, the other fanbases hate you. And no franchise has had more success over the past four seasons than the Kansas City Chiefs.
It’s no surprise, then, that three people linked to the Chiefs made the list of the 20 most hated people in the NFL, according to research by BetOnline.ag.
Only one was a player: superstar receiver Tyreek Hill. The others were people close to quarterback Patrick Mahomes: younger brother Jackson Mahomes and fiancée Brittany Matthews.

According to Stefan Stevenson of Fort Worth Star-Telegram in an article published on March 3: “The [Twitter] The study was conducted by analyzing keyword associations on Twitter, including negative phrases such as “I hate Aaron Rodgers” or “Antonio Brown sucks.” Over a million tweets in December were used to pitch the semi-scientific study.
First on the charts was Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers quarterback, who was associated with 266,850 negative tweets in December 2021. The top KC trending name was Jackson Mahomes at No. 6 (71,349 negative tweets).
The polarizing TikTok sensation recently told his followers he was moving to Los Angeles in July, an announcement that amassed more than 850 likes on Twitter.
Hill was right behind him at No. 7, with 62,379 hateful tweets related to his name.
Hill, 28, was charged with domestic assault in 2014 while a star at Oklahoma State University. He pleaded guilty and was put on probation. In 2019, he was investigated on suspicion of child abuse but was never charged. Apparently Hill’s hatred hasn’t dissipated yet.
Matthews, 26, came in at No. 17 with 10,404 tweets, just inside the top 20. Patrick Mahomes’ longtime significant other is receiving support from Chiefs Kingdom (his “Team Brittany” campaign has raised funds to promote cyberbullying awareness), but other NFL fanbases are less kind to her.
She got a lot of heat on social media in January after spraying champagne on fans following the Chiefs’ Jan. 23 playoff win over the Buffalo Bills. Bet Online survey results reflect negative tweets from December only.

Can’t we all get along?
Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell implored NFL fans in a February 20 tweet to “end Twitter’s vitriol towards Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes and fiancée Brittany Matthews,” and the same could be said for some of the other names on this list.
At the very least, the study should serve as a quantifiable reminder of the amount of negativity on the internet. A bit of competitive negativity seems understandable, but as McDowell said, the outrageous hate seems unwarranted.
