National Catholic Reporter Names Dr. Nicole Symmonds 2021-2022 Sacred Writes Fellow

The National Catholic Reporter (NCR) has named Dr. Nicole Symmonds a 2021-2022 Sacred Writes Fellow. The Sacred Writes Fellowship is hosted by Northeastern University and funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. The aim of the scholarship is to bridge the gap between academia and religious media. The fellowship, first established in 2018, provides fellows with training and support from writers and editors working in religious media.
Dr. Symmonds earned a BS in Journalism from Florida A&M University, an M.Div from Candler School of Theology, and a Ph.D. from Emory University’s Higher Division of Religion. Her work focuses on sexual ethics in pop culture, Christian social ethics and ethnography and anti-trafficking work. His current research focuses on anti-trafficking and the role of evangelicals.
Because of its independent status, NCR goes where other Catholic news sources cannot. In its early days, NCR reported on the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, including the secret conclusions and dissenting opinions of Pope John XXIII/Pope Paul VI’s commission on birth control. The publication can be viewed online at NCRonline.orgor by following @NCRonline on Facebook and Twitter.
