Latest live: Center advises screening foreign passengers for monkeypox

The flood situation in parts of Wardha district, Maharashtra remained grim as the region witnessed incessant rains with overflowing dams. The rescue operation continues as normal life is affected. Earlier on Monday, an orange alert was issued for Gadchiroli and Gondia districts by the Mumbai Regional Meteorological Center predicting thunderstorm and lightning with heavy to very heavy rain at isolated locations.

The monsoon session of parliament got off to a stormy start on Monday, leading to both houses adjourning without dealing with much business following an opposition uproar on issues ranging from rising price in the Agnipath program. The uproar erupted even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged MPs ahead of the start of parliamentary business to make the session as productive as possible and called for debate, criticism and analysis for positive policy input and decisions. In a lighter vein, he noted that in Delhi the rains have started but the heat outside is not abating and wondered if the heat will abate inside the parliament.

West Bengal reported 1,449 new cases of COVID-19, taking the tally to 20,72,307, while the death toll soared to 21,282 with six more fatalities, the health department said on Monday. The positivity rate stands at 16.90%, he said. The state had reported 2,659 new infections as of Sunday. West Bengal now has 29,583 active cases, while 20.21,442 people have recovered from the disease so far. It has tested 8,573 samples for COVID-19 since Sunday, the department added.
