The anthropology department invites applications from an exceptional anthropologist for a tenure-track position in culture and media. Applicants will teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, joining faculty in
our well-known Culture and Media Certificate Program, a joint program in Anthropology, Film Studies and the NYU Film School, now in its thirtieth year. The position is scheduled to start September 1, 2022 pending budgetary and administrative approval.
The Department is looking for candidates with a background in sociocultural and visual anthropology; anthropological research on a dimension of visual or other media compatible with our focus on media ethnography; knowledge of ethnographic film history and theory, including contemporary debates; and sufficient experience in producing ethnographic documentaries to teach and supervise students in the use of non-linear installations. We particularly welcome applicants who bring a work record that promotes equity and inclusion in their research, teaching and service.
